Ottawa Chapter Growing Quickly

MealCare Ottawa was founded in May 2018, just under a year ago, and has hit the ground running. The Ottawa chapter has already started delivering food from its donation partners (including Anabia Cupcakes and Rinag) to its community parters (including the Ottawa Mission and Operation Come Home). Since its debut, they have delivered 1512 pounds of edible food, all of which has been diverted from the land fill. From this food, 1665 meals were diverted to people in need that would have otherwise been thrown out, and $7493 was saved by partnered homeless shelters on meals. Through bake sales and educational tabling, MealCare Ottawa is pushing to make a greater impact in their community. This next year, MealCare Ottawa hopes to increase its donation partners, inaugurate an educational campaign for elementary and secondary schools, and launch larger fundraising events. Last but not least, it hopes to encourage greater engagement among university students by teaching them how to save money through tips on how to store and cook your food wisely. As the Ottawa chapter grows, it needs more helping hands. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to become a driver, support volunteer, or even shadow an exec to gain experience for future leadership opportunities.
